Chris Bowen, minister for Climate Change and Energy, has confidently expressed that the east coast could increase its energy supply by the end of the decade. The Australian Energy Market Operator in its latest Electricity Statement of Opportunities report, warned of electricity shortages if renewable projects get delayed behind the closure of fossil fuel plants. In addition, the AEMO says the delay in delivery of the Kurri Kurri facility will cause an energy shortage in the NSW grid in 2024.
Daniel Westerman said, “it is essential to speed up reserve capacities like batteries, long-life storage, and more generation to minimize the risk of power shortage.”
He added, “immediate investment in renewable energy, long-duration storage, and transmission helps meet the demand for electricity for Australian homes and businesses.”
The Energy Minister, on behalf of the government assures clean and reliable energy to fill the gaps left by retiring coal fire stations.
Mr. Bowen said, “This report normally comes out once a year which counts only on agreed projects, but there are still many energy projects ahead that would reduce the risk of power shortage.
Nationals senator Matt Canavan says the power prices ain’t expected to go down. He says it is eye-watering for Australian families to realize there are much greater power shortages ahead.
